Biographical Sketch


Jan Juta was born in South Africa in 1890. Throughout his career he worked as a painter, muralist, illustrator, and stained glass artist in South Africa, the United States, France, and England. He died in the United States in 1990.

Scope and Contents


Works in the Jan Juta Art Collection include paintings of scenes of Corsican and Sardinian life and culture, which were published in either D.H. Lawrence's Sea and Sardinia (1921), or Réné Juta's (Hansard, Réné, -1940) Concerning Corsica (1926). Also included in the collection is a charcoal on paper portrait of D. H. Lawrence.
