Scope and Contents

This collection of papers of author Kathleen Farrell contains datebooks, holograph notebooks, holograph and typescript drafts and notes, and a small amount of correspondence, mostly from publishers.
The papers are organized in two series: I. Datebooks and Notebooks and II. Correspondence, notes, and drafts. The datebooks in Series I. cover the period 1980-1998 and record appointments primarily, with one small notebook containing telephone numbers. The holograph notebooks, from the earliest years of her writing career to the year of her death in 1999, contain novel and short story drafts as well as notes. There are occasional drafts of correspondence. Many notebooks are untitled and contain multiple works; some sections contain diary entries dated sequentially. Often the handwriting is interspersed with shorthand. Many of the notebooks have sections removed, causing detached textblocks and covers. Care should be taken in handling these materials.
Series II. Correspondence, notes, and drafts contains largely manuscript drafts and fragments for short stories and the novel Limitations of Love. The occasional correspondence interspersed with the manuscripts includes the BBC, publishers, and agents. Drafts are often a mixture of typescript and handwritten pages with corrections.
