Edward Alexander Parsons (American, 1878-1962) was a New Orleans collector and gentleman scholar. The collection consists of more than 3,000 photographs of art works and manuscripts.
Box 1 (957:0036:0001-0116) -- Prints of engravings; old snapshots and one spiral book with black paper.
Box 2 (957:0036:0117-0312) -- Images of paintings including Brogri, Sommers, Anderson, and Bellini, mostly Italian.
Box 3 (957:0036:0313-0572) -- Predominantly Chinese, with images of plates, rugs, pottery, silver, porcelain, and pewter.
Box 4 (957:0036:0573-0704) -- Copy prints of manuscript and book pages, and paintings. Many captioned.
Box 5 (957:0036:0705-0883) -- Mostly furniture and jewelry, including Chinese, French, Italian, Roman, Egyptian.
Box 6 (957:0036:0884-1158) -- Mostly pottery including Russian, Italian, Spanish, Syrian, Egyptian, English, French, Turkish, Irish, Korean, and Greek.
Box 7 (957:0002:0032-0033; 982:0030:0001; 997:0105:0103-0107, 0219) -- Reproduction of the Ely Palace Portrait of Shakespeare, mounted on wood, and 97 photographic reproductions of European paintings.
Box 8 (957:0021:0001-0056) -- Various images of studio/environmental portraits; portraits of Parsons, his wife, and daughter; a tintype of Parson's daughter; and tableaux and movies scenes of groups. Also copy prints of manuscripts and letters.

Album 2 (958:0374:0001-0019) -- Photograph album, which has "Athens" blind-stamped on the cover, containing 19 prints that are chiefly commercial views of ancient Greek architecture. Most of the images have captions painted or stripped on. Laid in at the front of the album are three engravings of subjects related to Louisiana.
Album 3 (958:0375:0001-0025) -- Photograph album, which has "Paris" blind-stamped on the cover, containing 25 prints that are chiefly commercial reproductions of paintings in Paris museums, including the Louvre. Most of the images have captions painted or stripped on.
Album 4 (958:0376:0001-0092) -- Photograph album containing 92 images (65 photographic prints, 24 color halftone prints, 3 collotypes), which includes commercial art reproductions and views of architecture and sculpture around the world, and family vacation snapshots of Parsons, his wife, and daughter. Also found within are 16 other items that include a pencil sketch, a publisher's advertisement, and one leaf with a facsimile of "Abbreviated signature of William Shakspere [sic]."
Album 5 (958:0377:0001-0024) -- Photograph album containing 24 prints that are commercial views of southern France which were published together as "Souvenir des Pyrenees."
Photographers whose work is represented in the collection include Edizioni Brogi, Neurdein frères (credited as both "X Phot" and "ND"), and A.G. The time period represented is circa 1890 to circa 1920. |
