The collection is comprised of approximately 75 film based negatives and 1,175 lantern slides of a wide variety of subject matter from the Visual Instruction Bureau (VIB) that was a part of the Division of Extension at the University of Texas at Austin. Established in the 1910s, the purpose of the VIB was "[t]o assist schools and communities in promoting the visual method in education" and serve "as a loan bureau for lantern slides and motion picture films." To that end, the VIB created and lent films, lantern slide sets and lanterns (projectors), and mounted reproductions of paintings, and equipment to promote was disbanded in 1976. |
