The Ransom Center holds the extant archives, apparatus, and photographic images of the Harvey and Julius Patteson Photography Studio. In continuous operation from approximately 1912 to 1979, the Patteson Studio was based in San Antonio, Texas, and became one of the most important commercial photographic companies in the state. Through its photographic prints and negatives, the archive covers a wide variety of American cultural and humanistic dimensions, including: military history, architecture, art, land development, the cattle and agricultural industries, and numerous urban views.

Spanning the active careers of three generations of photographers, the Harvey and Julius Patteson Photography Studio flourished during the richest periods of American commercial photographic history.
