Description:

240 silver gelatin prints. The Rephotographic Survey Project collection is comprised of copy prints of landscapes and scenes from the western U.S. made for the United States Geological Survey by noted nineteenth-century photographers, paired with modern images of the same scenes made under nearly identical situations. Each box contains a list of RSP negative numbers for the prints.

Nineteenth-century photographers include William Henry Jackson, Timothy O’Sullivan, Russell, Gardner, and Hiller; twentieth-century rephotographers include Mark Klett, JoAnn Verburg, Gordon Bushaw, and Rick Dingus. Time period represented 1870s and 1970s.

There was a published book that accompanied the project, called Second view : the Rephotographic Survey Project. -Q- TR 660.5 S43 1984 HRC-P. It reproduces all of these images, plus has a catalog of all of the prints by negative number, including site locations.
