Description: |
The collection consists of 26 photographs, which are primarily of the gardens, statues, and fountains of Versailles, by Eugène Atget (French, 1857-1927). Also included are views of Parc de Saint-Cloud, an interior courtyard of Fontainebleau, street scenes in Paris, Châtenay-Malabry, Beauvais, and Bourg-la-Reine. Two of the prints (983:0022:0001-0002) were made by Berenice Abbott (American, 1898-1991) from Atget's original negatives. Abbott met Atget in 1927, and two years later she brought 2,000 of his negatives to the United States. Item-level information follows. |
