Unpublished album containing fifty mounted photographs by C. D. (Charles Dudley) Arnold (American, 1844-1927) of the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. Arnold was the official photographer for the exposition. Inscribed on the back of the front page of the album: " World Columbian Exposition / Chicago / 1893."and "Presented to His Excellency / Lord Curzon of Kedleston / by L. Z. Leiter". George Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston (British, 1859-1925), was a Conservative politician and statesman. Levi Ziegler Leiter (American, 1834-1904) was a Chicago-based business man and co-owner of Field, Leiter & Co. (later Marshall & Co.). Curzon was married to Leiter's daughter, Mary Victoria, from 1895 until her death in 1906. Plate information follows. |
