Photograph album titled A Souvenir of the Harriman Alaska Expedition: May-August, 1899/i>, in two volumes (both disbound) that contain 251 mounted gelatin silver prints. One hundred and thirteen are by Edward S. Curtis (American, 1868-1952); the others are by businessman Edward Henry Harriman (American, 1848-1909), geologist Grove Karl Gilbert (American, 1843-1918), naturalist Clinton Hart Merriam (American, 1855-1942), W. R. Chichester, and mining engineer W. B. Devereaux. The subjects of the photographs include landscapes and seascapes, Native Americans and their homes and villages, wildlife, various flora, geological formations, the steamship and some of its ports, and some members of the expedition. |
