Description: |
Photographic album, bound in dark blue and black leather, containing 44 mounted photographs (29 collotypes, 9 albumen prints, 4 platinum prints, and 2 collodion printing-out-paper prints) of England (43) and Scotland (1). The photographs of England include: views of prominent landmarks around London (23), including St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower Bridge; views of Cumbria and the Lake District (11), including Windermere, Ullswater, and Langdale Valley; and views of Canterbury Cathedral, Ramsgate, Winchester Cathedral, and various points along the Sussex and East Sussex shoreline. The single view of Scotland is of the harbor in Dundee. Photographers whose work is represented include: a photographer known only as “A.P.” (1); Francis Bedford (1); H. Bell (8); Francis Frith & Co. (2); London Stereoscopic Co. (24); H. W. Salmon (1); and James Valentine (5). Two photographs are by unidentified photographers. Dates handwritten under the photographs span from 1900 to 1903, but many of the photographs probably date to the 1880s and 1890s. |
