Description:

The collection (formerly known as the California Migrant Farm Workers Collection) consists of 221 black-and-white 35mm slides in glass mounts, taken by the writer Sanora Babb (American, 1907-2005) and/or her sister Dorothy Babb (American, 1909-1996). Subjects include migrant farm workers, organizers, farmland, and camps in California in the 1930s. Other subjects include dust storms, cotton pickers, vegetable and fruit crops, picket lines, and the FSA. Also included is a portrait of Babb (997:0105:0231), which was removed from a copy of Babb's An Owl on Every Post, she inscribed: "Rita - Love, Sanora". The copy of the book, which is a signed presentation copy to Rita [Margarita Smith], is located in the Ransom Center's library with call number CT 275 B11 A3 1970 cop.1.
