Description:

Photographically illustrated journal titled The Far East: A Monthly Journal Illustrated with Photographs (Shanghai: Celestial Empire office, 1870-1878), edited by John Reddie Black (1827-1880) and containing mounted albumen prints. The journal, which was published simultaneously in Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, began publication on May 30, 1870. The Center's holdings are from the new series, which began publication in 1876, are volume 1 numbers 1 through 6. Caption information follows.
