HRC Leaf A30 Catholic Church. Gradual leaf. France / Flanders: 14th century. 1 leaf: parchment, 412 x 305 mm. Written in Latin, gothic textualis libraria script. Layout is eight long lines of text ruled in dry point alternating with square musical notation on 4-line red staves. Decoration includes historiated initial with gold leaf ground depicting Christ preaching to three evangelists in upper compartment and evangelists preaching to 10 individuals in lower compartment. The four symbolic creatures of the gospel evangelists surround the initial. Blue and red pen-flourished initials throughout. On 290r, one initial painted in blue, pink, and red, with white detailing. Foliated in upper right recto of each folio. Text: (incipit, antiphon Matthew 10:16) "ecce ego mitto... ." Provenance: Donated by Mrs. Robert Gordon Crosby. See De Ricci, Texas no. 3.
