HRC Leaf A49 Catholic Church. Antiphonal leaf. Italy? 14th-15th century. 1 leaf: parchment, 510 x 310 mm. (cropped). Written in Latin, gothic rotunda script. Layout is six long lines of text alternating with square musical notation on 4-line red staves. Ruled in lead. Decoration includes one 2-line red-and-purple pen-flourished initial and two 2-line blue-and-red pen-flourished initials. Foliated 115 on recto. Text: (recto) "-re ierusalem venit lux tua... et laudem domino annuntiantes. Reges thar-." Responsories and versicles for the second nocturn of the Octave of the Ephiphany. Margins heavily trimmed on all sides. Provenance: pencil inscription in bottom left corner of verso, now cropped: "Library of ? Newton." Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Goodwillie in memory of Mrs. Edwina Smalldon Hall, 1998. Formerly designated as G11074 uncat. Use: Unrestricted, for either reading room or classroom use.
