HRC Leaf A50 Catholic Church. Antiphonal leaf, opening of Matins. France or Germany?: 14th or 15th century. 1 leaf: parchment, 398 x 148 mm. (original dimensions approximately 398 x 300 mm.). Written in Latin, gothic textualis formata (textus quadratus) script. Layout is ten long lines of text alternating with square musical notation on 4-line red staves. Decoration includes one 4-line red, blue, and faded lavender decorated initial with marginal extender on recto; one 2-line blue initial; black-and-red pen-initials throughout. Foliated xxii in contemporary hand on recto. Text: (incipit) "Antequam com-... Sicut enim habet." Possibly antiphons for the Nativity. Condition: Leaf was cut in half; inner half remains. Provenance: From the collection of Alvin Romansky (1907-1994). Use: Unrestricted, for either reading room or classroom use. Facsimile: Complete digital facsimile available.
