Duell, Sloan and PearceThe publishing firm of Duell, Sloan and Pearce was founded in New York in 1939 by C. Halliwell Duell, Samuel Sloan and Charles A. Pearce. In 1961 the firm was acquired by Meredith Publishing Company. According to 'Dictionary of Literary Biography' 46 (1986), Meredith retired Duell, Sloan and Pearce as an imprint in 1967. According to John Tebbel: 'A history of book publishing in the United States', Volume IV (1981), all rights in Duell, Sloan and Pearce titles were purchased from Meredith in 1969 by Hawthorn Books.
