From the 1970s the firm concentrated on its food-service and newstand operations and had little to do with the book trade. In 1979 Ancorp was acquired by the French food-service company Sodexho. American Publishing CompanyThe American Publishing Company was founded in Hartford, Connecticut in 1865, and became one of the most successful subscription publishing houses in the USA, with numerous subsidiary companies. In 1903 the firm was purchased by Harper & Brothers. Angus and Robertson BookstoreThe Australian firm of Angus and Robertson was founded in 1886. The firm was principally a bookselling company, but began publishing from 1887. From the 1970s the bookselling and publishing companies became completely separate. The bookselling arm was acquired by Ipec Insurance and then passed through several ownerships before it was sold by W. H. Smith to Pacific Equity Partners in 2004.
