Rudd and CarletonThe publishing firm of Rudd and Carleton was founded in New York in 1857 as the successor firm to Livermore and Rudd. In 1857 Edward Livermore retired from the firm and its owners became Edward P. Rudd, his father George Rudd and George Washington Carleton. Silver Burdett CompanySilver Burdett Company was founded (as Silver & Co.) in the 1880s as an education publishing house. The firm was purchased in 1985-86 by Simon & Schuster. In 1998 all the Simon & Schuster educational businesses, including Silver Burdett Company, were sold to Pearson, which formed a new company called Pearson Education. The name of Silver Burdett is preserved in the Pearson imprint of Silver Burdett Ginn. See www.pearsoned.com.2008

Vaughan and GommeThe publishing firm of Vaughan and Gomme was founded in New York in 1914 by Donald Vaughan and Laurence James Gomme. Vaughan withdrew from the firm in 1914, and it continued as Gomme and Marshall (q.v.) and then as Laurence James Gomme, before Gomme closed the firm and ended his publishing career in 1917. Victor Gollancz LtdVictor Gollancz founded his publishing house in 1928. It was sold by his daughter Livia Gollancz to Houghton Mifflin in 1989, and then purchased by Cassell plc in 1992. Cassell in turn was purchased by Hachette in 1998, and forms part of the Orion Publishing Group within Hachette. Victor Gollancz is an imprint of Orion.
