Angus and Robertson LtdThe Australian publishing firm of Angus and Robertson was founded in 1886. The firm was principally a bookselling company, but began publishing from 1887. From the 1970s the bookselling and publishing companies became completely separate (see the FOB entry for Angus and Robertson Bookstore). Anthony Blond LtdAnthony Blond Ltd was founded in 1957. See Anthony Blond's own account in his book 'Jew made in England'. His publishing firm went through many changes and mergers, being known as Blond & Briggs Ltd and also Holt-Blond in the 1970s, and Muller, Blond & White Ltd in the 1980s. Arthur Barker LtdArthur Barker founded his publishing firm in 1932. In 1959 the firm was sold to Weidenfeld & Nicolson. Arthur L. HumphreysMr Arthur Lee Humphreys was a bookseller who also published books on an occasional basis from the 1890s to the 1930s. From about 1890 he was one of the proprietors of Hatchards and his books were mostly published from Hatchards' address at 187 Piccadilly, London. In 1924 he sold his interest in Hatchards (see 'The Times', 31 March 1924), but continued to publish occasionally, mostly his own writings, for another ten years or so. He died in 1946.2009
AslibAslib was founded in 1924 as the Association of Special Libraries and Information Bureaux. In December 2004 Aslib went into liquidation. In 2005 its titles, name and rights were acquired by Routledge Reference, which is a division of Taylor & Francis. See www.taylorandfrancisgroup.com. 2008
Associated Book Publishers LtdThe publishing agglomerate Associated Book Publishers Ltd at different times included Methuen, Chapman & Hall, Spon, Eyre & Spottiswoode, Sweet & Maxwell, Routledge & Kegan Paul and Croom Helm. ABP was purchased by the Thomson Corporation in 1987. Athene Publishing Co. LtdThe Athene Publishing Co. of Wellingborough and London was closely associated with Thorsons in the 1950s and 1960s. B. T. Batsford LtdThe publishing firm of B. T. Batsford Ltd was founded in 1843. The firm went into receivership in the 1990s and was subsequently acquired by Chrysalis Books.
