Reilly and Britton Publishing Company | The Madison Book Company was founded in Chicago in 1902 by Frank K. Reilly and Sumner C. Britton. In 1904 the firm's name was changed to Reilly and Britton Publishing Company. Britton left the firm in 1916, and from 1919 William F. Lee became a full partner and the firm became Reilly and Lee Publishing Company. Reilly and Lee Publishing Company | Reilly and Lee Publishing Company was formed in 1919 as the successor company to Reilly and Britton (q.v.). In 1957 Reilly and Lee was acquired by the Henry Regnier Company, which became known as Contemporary Books from 1977. Contemporary Books was acquired by the Tribune Company in 1993, and in 1996 became part of NTC/Contemporary. Rigby | Rigby is a long-established educational publisher. Rigby International was purchased by Reed in 1988 and Rigby Education in 1991. The firms were then mostly part of the Harcourt Achieve division of Reed Elsevier. Harcourt Achieve was purchased by Houghton Mifflin in 2007, and is now part of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
