Abstract:
The papers of Archibald Gordon Macdonell
contain drafts of a number of his novels, works of non-fiction, and plays. Unless
otherwise
indicated as typescripts, the drafts are handwritten but may have some typescript
pages
inserted. Although Macdonell also published under the pseudonyms Neil Gordon and John
Cameron, none of those works are represented here.
The papers of Archibald Gordon Macdonell contain drafts of a number of his novels,

Among the books present are the satirical novels Autobiography of a Cad (1939) and Lords and Masters (1936). There is one folder of maps used as
research materials for his book Napoleon and His Marshals
(1934). Also included is a preface for his play What Next, Baby? or Shall I Go to Tanganyika? (1939), as well as
draft scripts of plays including The Fur Coat (1943) and Caledonian Market.
