The collection consists of 309 photographic prints, most (300) of which are contained
in two photographic albums. The albums, entitled ‘Travel Photographs taken by
Richard Aldington,’ date from 1928 to 1931. The photographs were taken by Aldington
and Brigit Patmore, and are accompanied by captions and notations by Aldington
and
Derek Patmore. Aldington's travels to Italy, Portugal, Spain, France, Austria,
the
Isle of Capri, Sicily, Tunisia and Greece are all documented here. Among the loose
prints, of particular note, is a formal portrait of Aldington taken by Man Ray
(975:0094:0009).
Additional photographs of Aldington can be found in a small album containing twelve
photographs in the Bridget Patmore Literary File Photography Collection (see Album
1).
Further descriptions of some items are available in a card catalog in the
repository.
This collection forms a part of the Literary File Photography Collection, which is
comprised of photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers
of
literary figures, and generally include portraits and images collected by or of
those figures.
