Scope and Contents


This collection, created by the Ransom Center, consists of Gabriel García Márquez-related acquisitions that illuminate both personal and professional activities of the author and journalist. These accessions are relatively small in volume and have been gathered together for ease of description and access. The collection is arranged in alphabetical order.
Included in the collection are:
A carbon typescript of Gabriel García Márquez’s El coronel no tiene quien le escriba (No One Writes to the Colonel) (1957), as well as correspondence, including handwritten notes on personalized notecards, typed letters, a telegram from García Márquez dated 1972, and a typed carbon letter to President François Mitterand (accession 15-09-013-P);
A copy of Gabriel García Márquez’s El general en su laberinto (The General in His Labyrinth) (1989) with over one dozen emendations in the author’s hand, possibly in anticipation for Diego García Elío’s Equilibrista edition in 1991 (accession 15-06-001-P);
A color photograph of Gabriel García Márquez in Mexico City, 2013, inscribed to Glenn Horowitz by the photographer Guillermo Angulo (accession 15-10-018-G);
Remarks by the President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos delivered at the Gabriel García Márquez Symposium at The University of Texas at Austin, October 28, 2015 (accession 15-11-005-G);
