Biographical Sketch
William Stott (1940- ), a professor at the University of Texas at Austin, is the author of Documentary Expression and Thirties America (1973) and a co-author of On Broadway (1978), a career retrospective of the New York theater photographer Fred Fehl (1906-1995). The generously illustrated On Broadway, with photographs by Fehl and text by William Stott and Jane Stott, is a chronological treatment of Fehl’s career photographing more than 400 premieres and revivals, from Liliom (44th Street Theatre, 1940) to Golden Rainbow (Shubert Theatre, 1968). Most of the text of On Broadway consists of excerpts from William Stott’s interviews with theater personalities such as George Balanchine, Harold Clurman, Hume Cronyn, and Jessica Tandy. |
