The Shelley Family Documents consist of four legal documents pertaining to ancestors of Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822), the English Romantic poet and social reformer. The documents are indentures concerning the sale, lease, or entailment of land owned by these Shelley family members: Richard Shelley (1583-1623), Timothy Shelley (1700-1770), Sir Bysshe Shelley (1731-1815), and Sir Timothy Shelley (1753-1844).

Additional Shelley-related materials at the Ransom Center are located in the Percy Bysshe Shelley Collection and the Richard Garnett Collection. See also Shelley and Mary (1882) in the Center’s Library, a printed collection of the whole of the unpublished poems, letters, diaries, and other documents in the hands of the Shelley family at the time of its production, edited by Sir Percy F. Shelley and Lady Jane Shelley (call number PR 5431 A4 1882). Locks of Percy Bysshe and Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s hair are included in a scrapbook compiled by Leigh Hunt, a fellow English Romantic poet.
The New York Public Library holds a collection of 53 Shelley family legal documents in its Carl H. Pforzheimer Collection of Shelley and His Circle.
