Limited edition published portfolio, entitled Portfolio
Three: The Work of Ralph Eugene Meatyard (Louisville, Ky.: Center for
Photographic Studies, 1974), containing 10 mounted, gelatin silver photographs
by
Ralph Eugene Meatyard (American, 1925-1972). The portfolio was issued in a grey
board slipcase, illustrated with two reproductions of photographs of Meatyard
by his
daughter, Melissa Meatyard (American). "This portfolio was produced under the
supervision of Conrad J. Pressma at the Center for Photographic Studies, with
the
approval and cooperation of Madelyn Meatyard." Madelyn Meatyard (American,
1926-2016) was the artist's widow. The mounted prints, each separated by a cotton
paper cover sheet, are enclosed in a grey paper folder within an off-white,
cloth-bound board portfolio. Printed inside the folder are two essays: one by
Van
Deren Coke (American, 1921-2004), and the other by Conrad J. Pressma (American,
born
1944), the Director of the Center for Photographic Studies. "This edition of
Portfolio Three: The Work of Ralph Eugene Meatyard is limited to 130 numbered
copies. Of that number, 100 are offered for sale and 30 proof copies are reserved
for special friends of the Center for Photographic Studies." The Ransom Center's
copy is number 38. The titles and dates that appear in the item list were
transcribed from the porfolio's list of plates. Accompanying the portfolio, though
not issued with it, is a copy of the publisher's announcement that reproduces
all
ten photographs in the portfolio. |
