Scope and Contents

Each year an artist is invited by Momart, a British art storage, transport, and installation company, to interpret the tradition of the holiday card which is then distributed to clients in a limited edition. The first Momart Christmas Card was created in 1984 by Scottish artist Bruce McLean, and subsequent participants have included Tracy Emin, Damien Hirst, and David Hockney. The Ransom Center holds five Momart Christmas Cards, by artists Lucien Freud, Gary Hume, Sarah Lucas, Catherine Yass, and Toby Ziegler and Joel Peers. The majority are mixed media works; the piece by Sarah Lucas involves several elements requiring assembly into a mobile. All pieces are stored in their original gift boxes or envelopes.
