Abstract:
The feature film Something of Value (released 1957, reissued as Africa
Ablaze) was directed and written by Richard Brooks (based on the Robert Ruark
novel), and produced by Pandro S. Berman for MGM. The production file includes the
continuity supervisor’s script, preliminary set list, wardrobe plot book, and a large
number
of stills (contact sheets) arranged by scene number. Filmed on location in Africa,
the movie
portrays the Mau Mau uprising in the British Kenya Colony and stars Rock Hudson as
a
colonial and Sidney Poitier as a native Kenyan.
