The collection consists of 17 photographs that are chiefly portraits of the Victorian poet and Jesuit priest Gerard Manley Hopkins (British, 1844-1889) and members of his family. Many of the uncredited photographs were likely taken by Hopkins uncle, George de Giberne, who was an amateur photographer. An index at the end of this guide lists photographers whose work is featured in this file. Further descriptions of some items may be available in a card catalog in the repository.
This file forms a part of the Literary Files Photography Collection that is comprised of photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers of literary figures, and generally includes portraits and images collected by or of those figures.

Associated and related material by and about Hopkins are located in the Center's library and in the Gerard Manley Hopkins Collection (MS-02014) from which these photographs were likely transferred.
