The Sinclair Lewis Literary File consists of 2,621 items, largely contained in seven
albums. The images in six of the albums form a chronological depiction of Lewis' life
and
travels from 1912 to 1927, the years of his relationship with his first wife Grace
Hegger.
The seventh album contains images of life at Twin Farms, Lewis' home with his second
wife
Dorothy Thompson, in circa 1943. The file includes portraits of Lewis, Grace, and
their son
Wells among the loose prints as well as in the albums. An index at the end of this
guide
lists photographers whose work is featured in this file. Further descriptions of some
items
may be available in a card catalog in the repository.
This file forms a part of the Literary Files Photography Collection that is comprised
of
photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers of literary figures,
and
generally includes portraits and images collected by or of those figures.
