Abstract: The Merle Armitage Literary File consists of approximately 700 photographs, many of which are images of books written, edited, and/or designed by Armitage. Also included are portraits of Armitage and various other people, as well as views of the Grand Canyon and various places in Europe. In addition, there are numerous images of petroglyphs, as well as some pertaining to the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe railroad system.

Scope and Contents


The Merle Armitage Literary File consists of approximately 700 photographs, many of which are images of books written, edited, and/or designed by Armitage. Also included are portraits of Armitage and various other people, as well as views of the Grand Canyon and various places in Europe. In addition, there are numerous images of petroglyphs, as well as some pertaining to the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe railroad system. An index at the end of this guide lists photographers whose work is featured in this file. Further descriptions of some items are available in a card catalog in the repository.
This collection forms a part of the Literary File Photography Collection, which is comprised of photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers of literary figures, and generally include portraits and images collected by or of those figures.
