The Joe H. Baker, Jr., Collection of Francis King consists primarily of correspondence between Baker and British writer Francis Henry King (1923-2011), with materials dating from 1948 to 1988. The correspondence concerns mutual acquaintances and general topics. Of note are letters, dated 1988, that discuss the decline and eventual death of King’s partner to HIV. Baker relates some of his work as an AIDS and gay rights activist in Houston, TX, and King mentions the fear and prejudice that surrounded the disease in the 1980s.
