Description:

This collection consists of nine portrait photographs by Herbert Barraud (English, 1845-1896). Eight of the photographs are plates from Men and Women of the Day: A Picture Gallery of Contemporary Portraiture (London, Richard Bentley; Eglington, 1888-July 1894). The volume and plate number for each portrait follows: Sir Charles Warren (v.I, pl.30), John Morley (v.I, pl.34), Sir John Lubbock (v.II, pl.4), John Tyndall (v.II, pl.31), William Powell Frith (v.III, pl. 18), William Holman Hunt (v.III, pl.25), Edith Scannell (v.III, pl.29), and William Edward Hartpole Lecky (v.III, pl.30). The portraits of Lecky, Lubbock, Morley, and Scannell are each accompanied by 4 pages of printed biographical information. The Ransom Center holds volumes 1-3 and 5 of the publication (see f TR 681 F3 M362 HRC-P). The ninth portrait in the collection is adhered to a piece of sheet music for Henriette's Claudian Valse (Hopwood & Crew, ca. 1880s). Print information follows.
