Description:

The Francis Bedford Photography Collection consists of 36 photographs by or attributed to Francis Bedford (British, 1815–1894), dating from 1853 to 1901. The collection includes 35 albumen prints and one platinum print, ranging in size from 10.1 × 14.4 inches to 23.7 × 29.4 inches.

Bedford’s photographs depict both picturesque and topographical views of natural landscapes and historic architecture across England and North Wales, as well as three views from Lebanon made during the Prince of Wales’s Royal Tour in 1862. Architectural subjects encompass cathedrals, abbeys, castles, temples, and bridges, representing examples of historic monuments and sites across these regions. Ten prints belong to the Gernsheim Collection, and twenty-six are part of the Photography Collection.
