Description:

153 albumen prints by the English photographers Maull & Polyblank. These include studio portraits of famous (English) personalities (especially Fellows of the Royal Society), taken 1855-1858, each mounted on white card with gilt border; most are autographed by the sitters who include: Robert Stephenson, Lord Macaulay, Lord Campbell, Dr. Livingstone, Walter Savage Landor, Lord Aberdeen, Lord Brougham, Lord Derby, Sir John Lubbock (Lord Avebury), (Cardinal) Wiseman, Dr. (Sir) Lyon Playfair, Sir Joseph Hooker etc., George Cruikshank, Warren de la Rue, John Edward Grey, Edward Hawkins, and others. Another group consists of portraits of men and women, taken 1855-1861; all are dated, and mostly all are signed by the sitters.
