Description: |
The collection consists of 240 silver gelatin prints from the Rephotographic Survey Project (RSP). The project, which ran from 1977 to 1979. was initiated by Mark Klett (American, born 1952), was to re-photograph landscapes and scenes in the western United States (U.S.) that were originally photographed for the U.S. Geological Survey by noted nineteenth-century photographers. The photographs in the collection are modern prints of the original photographs paired with photographs by contemporary photographers of the same scenes. Based on extensive research by Ellen Manchester, the contemporary photographs were made under nearly identical situations so as to reflect time of year, framing, and vantage point of the original images. Each box contains a list of RSP negative numbers for the prints. |
