Description:

Set of three unpublished photograph albums containing a total of 121 mounted images that include gelatin silver prints, albumen prints, engravings, lithographs, half-tone prints, and postcards. The albums belonged to and may have been assembled by Walter Emile van Wijk (Dutch, 1887-1961). The subjects include: reproductions of art works; reproductions of pages from manuscripts and texts; portraits of astronomers, scholars, and theologians with an emphasis on Joseph Justus Scaliger; reproductions of ancient calendars, astrolabes, and other astronomical and astrological charts; and sites, architecture, and sculpture of places associated with astronomy. Many of the photographs are commercial reproductions, but also included are a number of snapshots.
