Description:

Unpublished album, dating no earlier than 1881, of photographs containing 53 tipped in albumen prints and a laid in leaflet, entitled Worldly Conformity, issued by the American Tract Society. The photographs are primarily art reproductions and photographs of sculpture (36), but also include views of European monuments and architecture. Only one photographic portrait is included; it is a bust portrait of George Sand taken by Nadar. Pencil inscriptions appear throughout the album below and/or on the verso of each photograph. Other photographs have identification information printed from the negative. Several of the inscriptions are lines of poetry from works by Sir Walter Scott, Lord Byron, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and Thomas Bailey Aldrich.
