Description: |
100 gelatin silver stereographs by H. D. Girdwood (2), Realistic Travels (51), and Underwood & Underwood (47), assembled by Helmut Gernsheim. Gernsheim titled the group Around the World, placed the stereographs into a Realistic Travels case (originally produced for a series titled The Great War), and affixed labels marked “Around the World” over the spine of the case. The stereographs are from various published sets and primarily consist of images of national parks in the United States, Niagara Falls, life and architecture in and around New York City, and travel views of a variety of countries and regions around the world including Egypt, Palestine, and India. One (964:0097:0067) is hand colored. The stereographs most likely date between 1896 and 1912 and have been grouped according to subject. |
