Description:

The collection consists of three photomechanical prints of photographs by Lejaren à Hiller (American, 1880-1969). Hiller was commissioned by the medical corporation Davis & Geck in 1927 to promote the company's surgical sutures. The advertising campaign continued through the 1940s, wtih Davis & Geck distribution reproductions of Hiller's images to doctors through the United States and Canada. The photographs are tableaux vivants of surgeons throughout history. Hiller produced one image a year beginning in 1927 and ending in the 1950s. Item-level information follows.
