Description:

Late 19th-century photograph album formerly owned by the antiquarian Edward Alexander Parsons (American, 1878-1962). The album contains 34 albumen prints that primarily depict street scenes, urban architecture, and private residences in Shanghai (24 photographs), Hong Kong (9 photographs), and Kowloon (1 photograph), China. No photographers are credited and the photographs are not dated, but item 959:0013:0008 could not have been taken before 1881 and item 959:0013:0021 was likely taken by William Saunders (British, 1832-1892) in circa 1870-1890. Cataloger-supplied descriptions appear in brackets.
