Description:

Dr. Morgan Callaway, Jr., (American, 1862-1936) was a professor of English at the University of Texas at Austin. The collection consists of two boxes of 58 photographs, dating from 1861 to circa 1950, of an assortment of portraits of personal friends and relatives. The photographs include albumen and gelatin silver prints in various formats and assorted sizes that include 11 cartes-de-visite, 10 unidentified cabinet cards, 9 identified cabinet cards, 3 postcards and one mat from a cased item. Also included is an 18 x 12 inch oval-shaped, hand-colored and framed print of Dr. Calloway (958:0025:0058). Photographers whose work is represented in the collection include Ashman (Baltimore, MD), Blessing and Co. (Baltimore, MD), Fredricks (New York), S. B. Hill (Austin, TX), Hurd and Delany’s (Dalton, GA), Journeay (Austin, TX), W. Kurtz (New York), H. R. Marks (Austin, TX), C. W. Motes (Atlanta, GA), Russell (Baltimore, MD), Sarony (New York), Simon (New Orleans, LA), Smith & Motes (Atlanta, GA), G. F. Ward (Abilene, TX), and N. M. Wilcox (Georgetown, TX).
