Unpublished album referred to as Carroll’s first album [Carroll album VI] containing 70 photographs by Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) (British, 1832-1898). The photographs, which are all albumen prints from 1856, are portraits of the Dodgson family and their friends and were made from Carroll’s negatives 41 to 294. The album was numbered by Carroll "A VI", but it is chronologically his first album. The index, page numbers, and inscribed note "Begun June 1856" are in purple ink in Carroll's hand. Helmut Gernsheim noted: "Negative numbers range from 41 to 294. The photographs are chiefly portraits of the Dodgson family and their friends. There are also some views of Croft Rectory, of Whitby and of the Lake District, some reproductions of engravings, and a close-up of a kitten."
