Description: |
Published work, in 25 parts within two volumes, titled Egypt and Palestine, the contents of which are “[p]hotographed and described by Francis Frith, Jun.” All parts were published by James S. Virtue (of City Road and Ivy Lane, London, and 26 John Street, New York) on a monthly basis between 1858 and 1859. The first volume includes an introduction and contains a total of 37 plates in Parts I-XII. The second volume, which contains 39 plates in Parts XIII-XXV, includes a subscribers list in the last part. Also present are an advertisement for the work and an official announcement listing the proposed contents for all the parts. The official announcement states that “[t]he work will be issued to Subscribers only. It will be in Twenty-five Parts; each Part to contain Three Photographic Views, size nine inches by seven. The price will be 10s. per part. Every view will be accompanied by a sheet of letter-press, written by the artist. A List of Subscribers will accompany the last Part. With Part I. will be presented gratis an illustration of the Turkish Summer Costume. The subsequent parts will be issued monthly.” |
