Photographic album, titled Views [of India], created by Thomas George Glover (British, active 1860s), member of the Royal Engineers. The album contains 59 albumen prints of India, mostly by Glover (40), but also by a photographer whose initials are “O. M.” (2), and by Samuel Bourne (1). The remaining 16 photographs are by unidentified photographers. The photographs include views of landmarks in Agra; several views around Delhi; landscapes and architecture around Hurdwar, Myapore, and Roorkee; landscapes and genre scenes around Mussooree, including a picture of Glover’s house; and views along the Ganges River. Inside the front cover, Glover inscribed the album with: “T.G. Glover- / RE.” and “Roorkee- / August. 16- 1864”. Glover also wrote descriptive title below each photograph. |
