The collection consists of two woodburytypes by Achille Mélandri (French, 1845-1905), mounted on one board. Both are portraits of the French actress Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923) and were taken in Paris. Item-level information follows.

964:0894:0001a -- Sarah Bernhardt, 1878. Woodburytype, 11.6 x 7.7 cm (image). In this image Bernhardt, wearing a trouser suit, is standing next to the bust of a woman. She is holding a sculptor's modeling tool in one hand at her side, and she is resting one elbow on the stand that supports the bust. Her head is turned to face the camera;

964:0894:0001b -- Sarah Bernhardt, 1878. Woodburytype, 11.8 x 7.5 cm (image). In this image Bernhardt is costumed as the Queen of Spain from from Victor Hugo's play "Ruy Blas." She is dressed in a long gown and small crown, and is seated on an ornately carved wooden throne.
