The L. V. Dorsch Photography Collection includes one photograph album with black leather-bound board covers, black pages, and spiderweb interleaving, containing 160 photographs mounted with adhesive corners, 35 laid in photographs, and one laid in newspaper clipping. Also included is one box of uncataloged 35mm slides. All photographs in the album are gelatin silver prints and are a mixture of professional photographs and snapshots of travel. The images and clipping highlight the life of L. V. (Leroy “Roy” Vail) Dorsch (American, 1902-1961), while serving as an executive with the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO). The few photographs bearing inscriptions on their versos date from 1938 to 1958. Subjects include Dorsch alone and with others, Dorsch at work, and Dorsch with his wife, Vala Fullingim Dorsch (1903-1961) at various social events. The Dorsches died when the British liner they were sailing on, the MV Dara, exploded and sank in the Persian Gulf on 8 April 1961. |
