Description:

The collection consists of 99 items (98 photographic prints and 1 half-tone brochure) of and related to John Howell Books in San Francisco. The photographs date from 1915 to 1983 with the bulk dating to the late 1970s and early 1980s. The images are chiefly of Warren Howell, but a few also include his wife Antoinette. Two images (986:0040:0002 and 986:0040:0005) are of Warren and his father John Howell (American, 1874-1956), the founder of the business. Additional photographs were made at a ceremony honoring Warren Howell's career in the antiquarian book trade, and some of these depict former Ransom Center director Decherd Turner. The photographic prints are accompanied by a descriptive list, filed at the beginning of Box 1.
