HRC Leaf A43-A44 Catholic Church. Antiphonal folios. Italy: 15th century. 2 folios: parchment, 529 x 367 mm. Written in Latin, gothic rotunda (textus praescissus) script. Layout is fourteen long lines of text (on recto of first folio) and five long lines of text alternating with square musical notation on 5-line red staves. Folios joined, possibly folded the wrong way around. Decoration includes red and blue 2-line initials alternating throughout; three 2-line initials pen-flourished and colored in a now-faded yellow. Foliated cxiii and cx. Text: (incipit on recto) "Preciosa in conspectu dominià Alleluia alleluia alleluia." Last chant appearing on A44 was meant to be sung at vespers, "ad vesperas an[tiphon]a." Extensive rubric with abbreviated directions for various antiphons and responsories appears above incipit. Use: Unrestricted, for either reading room or classroom use.
