HRC 45 Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). Divina Commedia, with Latin gloss. Italy: 1363. 165 leaves: paper, 288 x 190 mm. Written in Italian with Latin glosses, Gothic textualis currens script, glosses in cursive. Layout is 46 to 50 lines ruled in lead; marginal and interlinear glosses. Decoration includes red pen drawing of leaves; red and blue initials. Binding: Rebound in limp vellum by Ransom Center in 20th century; formerly bound in 18th century calf (retained as HRC 45a). Provenance: Early owner's inscription "Nicolo" (fol. 2r); Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872), no. 8881; acquired by the Ransom Center in 1967 (R4033) from New York bookseller, Lew David Feldman (House of El Dieff).
